This page serves as a link to more fully developed pages on the Royal Air Force Station at Woodbridge, Suffolk, England. My father, Fred E. Buck, Jr., was an American air policeman stationed there during the early 1950's. He took the photos on this page. I hope to add to them in the near future.
To learn more about the RAF station, visit Linn Barringer's page, Air Bases at Bentwaters and Woodbridge. His page includes bulletin boards, and success stories of service personnel who lost contact with friends and found them again through his page.
Another site of interest is the Unofficial 81st SPS RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge Site. It also includes message boards, photos, reunion pages and more.
![]() | This photo is of the billboard that apparently led into the base. The Tiger mascot was a natural attraction for my father. His father had graduated from Clemson University (SC), home of the Clemson Tigers, and my father spent a few semesters there as well. |
| This one hung at the door to the messhall, hence, the Tiger Mess. | ![]() |
![]() | Bottom row, fourth from the left is my father, Fred Buck, Jr. The last man on the bottom row is Max J. Gee, looking right. I don't know who took the photo. I have two other names but I don't know which is which - Sammy Vincent and Sisonek (I don't know the correct spelling). |
If these photos bring back any memories, please let me know. My father was a rabid amateur photographer-- and we have a slew of photos! If there's something you'd particularly like to see, write me. I'll check our files and get back to you. Keep in mind, these photos are from the early '50s.
Please note. These photographs are the property of the Buck family. You may link to them, but do not download them from this site without permission. Thank you.
