Since there was no newsletter in August, the July minutes seem out of date, but are included here for your information.
For the next couple of months, we'll focus on two gigs: Labor Day celebration in Centennial Park and "Dulcimer in the Park" at White House on the Saturday following. For Labor Day, Glen will be coordinating with Metro Parks, but we expect a stage in approximately the same location, at the north end of Lake Wautagua and possibly playing "When the Saints Come Marching In" with the Dixieland band similar to last year. (Glen led the practice session, vocally imitating the sound of the band; it's guaranteed to call ducks and geese off the lake if he does it in the park). "Dulcimer in the Park" is a production of the White House club benefiting their middle school's dulcimer program. Our club will play as a group on the open mike part of the program. Please wear GODC tee shirts and name tags. There is a place on their program for open mike for any individuals that wish to play apart from our club's time. Let's plan on finding a place for supper together and hearing the concert featuring Butch Ross and Steve Seifert. Steve was with us and has added to his "Join the Jam" book with two more: one on flatpicking and low octave parts and one on harmony parts. We've been playing the four parts Tull Glazener gave us for "Spanish Hymn" and the harmony part for "Wildwood Flower" that Sandy gave us. We could add to our ensemble effect if we did more "parts" including chords on some of the songs we usually play.

Minutes of the August 19, 2007 meeting
We held two practice sessions for the Labor Day in Centennial Park gig, one at "deliberate" speed and one at rapid fire succession to mirror the way we will play them in the limited time slot. We sounded great, even a comment that David is behind a cloud smiling at the rendition of "Fisher's Hornpipe." Glen will be the conductor on Labor Day. We need to be there stage ready on time. Additionally, there seems to be enough interest in members of this club taking the open mike stage at "Dulcimers in the Park" celebration, 2 pm, September 8 in White House. Plus, there may be time available for anyone who wants to solo or play a duet, as individuals. Chester and Sue have directions and tickets for the 6 pm concert by Steve Seifert and Butch Ross. Additionally, there are six to eight "definites""and a few "maybes" to jam together at one of the two rest stops for bicyclists as they pedal to "Jack and Back" for MS research. "Jack and Back" is 75 miles from Franklin to Lychburg, and the two rest stop locations are 25 and 50 miles from Franklin. Jack Daniels is reputed to put on quite a feast and show at their distillery on Saturday night and musicians are their guests. Bob Yeager is in charge of coordination, please phone Bob at 615-373-1909 if you are interested in learning more. Judy led an active beginner's session at the August meeting. Beginners are welcome. Brush off your Christmas songs for the September meeting. We need to talk about holiday plans and gigs.
